• Possibilitarian Puppet Theater, Wall Street circus act

Excerpts from Possibilitarian Puppet Theater's "Possibilitarian Cabaret," Friday & Saturday Dec 3rd & 4th, 2010. UU Society, Cleveland, OH. Many of the signs in this video clip can't be read. In short, the US Economy is swimming in a kiddy pool, when Wall Street comes along splashes the economy with a buck of water- and the US Economy starts drowning. Working Poor & the Middle Class, who have been standing on the side reading the news are enlisted one by one by Wall Street to help the Economy recover- only to result in Wall Street kicking them too in the pool to drown. The Government comes in with a Bailout life preserver- handing it to Wall Street to help those in the pool keep from drowning, but Wall Street instead puts it around his neck and dances off as the others drown. The End...

We need to rethink our diversity strategy, says Sallie Krawcheck. What we've been trying for the last decade hasn't been working, but what exactly is the problem? Research reveals that diversity is actually worse in meritocracies. Managers—and particularly middle managers, Krawcheck points out—fall into the cognitive trap of hiring people who "remind me of a young me" (i.e. look like them and think like them) instead of more cognitively diverse people who would bring a missing skill set to a team. This is as important now, under the almost all-white male Trump administration, as it was in the 2008 Financial Crash. Wall Street is one of the most homogenous institutions in America, and Krawcheck has no doubt that having a more diverse set of minds in finance would have lessened the severity of the global crash. In addition, risk-taking and the poor decision making that results can be tracked to fluctuations in one hormone: testosterone. Whether it's the housing bubble, America's healthcare, or foreign policy, these are mistakes that affect millions of lives. As a CEO, Krawcheck's approach and advice on diversity is changing. The current strategy has been a failure, but what if companies paid their managers, in part, based on the diversity of their hires? What if we thought of diversity as more important than meritocracy? Sallie Krawcheck is the author of Own It: The Power of Women at Work. Read more at BigThink.com: http://bigthink.com/videos/sallie-krawcheck-why-diversity-is-more-important-than-having-a-meritocracy Follow Big Think here: YouTube: http://goo.gl/CPTsV5 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BigThinkdotcom Twitter: https://twitter.com/bigthink Transcript: In my experience, most CEOs and boards “get” the power of diversity. There may be some who are giving it lip service still out there but in my travels these individuals understand that not only is it the fair thing to do, and it’s really the tenet upon which our country was built, but it’s really the smart thing to do.Financial results, reaching different customer bases—I think they get it. Sadly, middle management is where diversity goes to die. And I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently because there’s research I’ve recently come across that says that diversity is actually worse in meritocracies. It’s really surprising, right? You’d think, you know a meritocracy, people will search out the best person, will search out the best strategy and we'll judge them later, and the capitalism, the market forces, will decide. Huh. But it’s worse in meritocracies and I think it is exactly that sort of hands-off perspective, that if you’re a CEO you get it, you’re hiring all the time, et cetera. But if you’re in middle management, you’re hiring, what? Once a year, twice a year, four times a year? Once every few years? It’s not a regular part of the job. And the research tells us that while there are these supposed benefits to diversity that we tend to retreat to the comfortable. We tend to overvalue products that we already have. We tend to overvalue environments in which we already exist. And by the way the longer we have it or exist in them, the more we overvalue them. And so what you see in the middle management is, "I like working with people like me. Maybe I read some research report one time that said diversity was better but gosh, I like Jim,” right? “Gosh I like him.” Compound that with that we tend to allow ourselves in this country to ask the wrong question. And the question we usually ask when hiring people is, “Can you help me find the best person for the job?” The “best person for the job” — our cognitive shortcut is, typically, someone who reminds us so darn much of ourselves. Whereas what we should be asking is, “Can you help me fill out the best team?” Build the best team with diverse skill sets, et cetera. So as a CEO my advice is changing. My advice is to often override the meritocracy. That this desire to let your managers manage — honey, we tried it. There's nothing more meritocratic than Wall Street and look what happened there. The most homogeneous of environments and oh— financial crisis. And so to put metrics out there, to pay managers on diversity is, I think, the only way to drive it. And as for the old diversity committee which you sort of did that ten years ago and, “Look, we’re working on diversity because we have it.” If you’ve had something in place for five and ten years and you’re diversity is not moving forward it’s time to stop it. It’s time to do something different, to change the tired mentoring program into a sponsorship program. To set those quotas—I know we hate the word quota—to set those goals. To pay people on those goals. To try to do something that’s different.

From a possible newly discovered time traveler, to the infamous time traveling hipster, these are 11 Possible Cases of TIME TRAVEL ! Subscribe to American Eye http://goo.gl/GBphkv 6. The Man from Taured In 1954 a man who could speak French as his first language and Japanese as his 2nd language arrived at Tokyo International Airport. When he handed off his passport to be stamped, it shocked the Japanese officials. The passport looked as if it were real but with one strange twist: it said he was from a country that didn’t exist, called Taured. When the authorities didn’t understand they made him point to a map and he pointed to the small nation of Andorra between France and Spain. He claimed to have never heard of Andorra before and it was even stranger that his passport was covered in Visa stamps which showed he went to Japan and many other countries before with that passport. The officials were really sure what to do and they decided to keep him in a hotel with guards outside his door until they figured out what to do. 5. Wall Street Millionaire We’re sure if you had the ability to go back in time, a lot of you would decide to invest in some companies that are bringing in the dough now or bet on the teams you know who won the superbowl and what not to become rich! That almost seems to be the case with Andrew Carissin, who was eventually detained by police for insider stock trading! Over a two week period Andrew took 800 bucks and turned in into 350 million! No one believed something like that could be possible, unless you had the ability to travel back in time! The cops asked him why and how he did this and his answer was shocking! He claimed that he travelled from the year 2256 and knew how the stocks would perform! In case you just sort of thought that sounded like a sarcastic answer, he correctly predicted the date of the US invasion of Iraq. The then disappeared off the face of the planet. 4. Night of Long Knives This photo here was taken in 1934, at a Nazi rally right before an important incident in history took place. This was the Night of long Knives, where Hitler ordered the killing of 85 political figures and this night would eventually lead to the rise of the Nazi party The man circled in the photo certainly seems a tad out of place. Could he have had something to do with the conspiring to kill the political leaders and put hitler in power? Was he possibly time traveling to possibly put an end to this event? Who knows! 3. Woman on Mobile Phone 1938 A video of a woman putting her hand to her ear never really got too much attention at first, but later on in 2013, people began to realize that maybe she was talking on a phone.. But hold on! This video was taken in 1938 of a group of women walking out a DuPont factory in Massachusetts! You clearly see in this clip that no one is talking to her, and the only person next to her is completely looking the other way! There’s also something in her hand! What could it be!? Some claim it was a listening device, but that wouldn’t generally be used by someone at this age. There were no cell phone towers back then so it’s really hard to say exactly what happened here. Maybe it was some type of recording device and she was making an entry about her experience that day? Seems like people are so hooked on their phone nowadays, they’ll even get caught time travelling because of it! 2. Charlie Chaplin’s Film Another well known sign of possible time travel, during the filming of the film called the Circus 1928, an unknown woman looks like she’s talking on the phone! As she’s walking by the striped horse or zebra mannequin, in a long black coat. It just seems to be someone you’d see every day walking down the street and talking on the phone but there’s only one catch! The first cell phone was much bigger and not invented until the 1980! The identity is difficult to determine but as you take a closer it does seem to take some rectangular shape to it. What were these devices used for if it wasn’t a phone! What does this woman know about time travel? Only she knows the true answer 1.Time Travelling Mummy A mummy was discovered high up in the Altai mountains of Mongolia that’s raised many questions about whether time travel is possible or not. A large amount of items were found including iron kettle, remains of a horse, travel bag, a saddle and most importantly her shoes! The carbon dating found the skeleton was left in the grave for 2000 years but the shoes seem rather modern! When people saw the shoes on twitter and learned about the discovery, many came together and claimed that they looked like these pair of adidas. They also claimed that no ancient shoe could have the same markings as a modern day adidas and said it must be a time traveler. Whether it was a joke or not, was unclear but the archaeologists wouldn’t respond to questions about the shoes and simply stated that there was some advanced craftsmanship that was discovered.

Cirque du Soleil reassessed its safety practices and revamped its show 'Kà' after a fatal accident in 2013. But questions remain about whether the show pushes the limits of daredevil stunts. The curtain will come down on the Ringling Bros. Circus forever in May, according to its owners. A mix of factors including low ticket sales, high operating costs, and ongoing conflicts with animal-rights groups contributed to the decision. Today we are at Oxford Circus in the West End of London. Oxford Circus is the intersection of Regent Street and Oxford Street in one of the major shopping districts of London. Oxford Street, Regent Street and the surrounding areas are beautifully decorated during the Christmas period. Besides many buses, Oxford Circus is also a busy station on the London Underground, served by the Bakerloo, Central, and Victoria lines. During peak hours, the station can get very busy with all the shoppers and business workers going in and out of the area. The film starts at nearby Carnaby Street, showing the beautiful Christmas decoration. We then move to the busy street intersection at Oxford Circus with its many buses, before we go underground towards the station platforms. Some platforms are manually dispatched by London Underground staff during peak hours, and one can hear them make announcements to aid the flow of people and to avoid congestion. The film shows all three Underground lines: The Victoria line is operated by the most modern stock, 2009 Tube Stock; the Central line uses 1992 Tube Stock, while the Bakerloo line uses the oldest stock anywhere on the Underground, 1972 Tube Stock. The Victoria and Central line are driven automatically using ATO, whilst the Bakerloo line is driven manually. Enjoy! This film was shot just prior to the evening rush hour on Monday, 4th of December, 2017.
